Getting Around on Isla Mujeres
Getting around on Isla Mujeres is a snap. Taxies can be hailed just about anywhere on the island. Four door red taxies are consistently available within a short wait time. There are well over 100 taxies on the island to serve you. Fares range from $3 dollars US for a short in town trips to $8 for longer trips down the island.


Another option is to rent a golf cart for a day or longer. This allows you to see the island at your own speed, especially if you have multiple stops. You may find it convenient to use a golf cart for a supply trip to the grocery stores as well.


Motor Scooters may be an option if you prefer to experience the island by a motorized bike. This is the most common form of transportation by the residents of Isla Mujeres; you will see scores of individuals and families travelling by motor scooters. However, be aware that numerous speed bumps and wet roads may be a challenge for those not familiar with operating a motorized scooter.


Bicycles are a great way to see Isla Mujeres if you chose to combine exercise with transportation. Island breezes and the somewhat hilly regions of the southern part of the island factor into riding a bike on Isla, however the opportunity to experience the island by bike can be rewarding.

There is a public bus service that operates on Isla Mujeres as well.


Golf carts, motor scooters and bicycles can be rented at a number of locations in the downtown area of the island.


Walking from Villa Tranquila to the downtown district is an excellent way to get around. A half mile walk on the roadway sidewalk will bring you to a scenic seawall malecon that follows the Caribbean to downtown. Once downtown, experience the colors and excitement of the numerous shops, restaurants and the beauty of the public beaches.
